Today, we watched a movie called Spiderman: Into The Spider-verse. It talks about Spiderman, he dies, and then there are a bunch more “Spider People” that come from alternate timelines and all join in one timeline.

The multiverse is a very complicated topic to cover. The multiverse is all the timelines. For example, maybe in one timeline we don’t go on this trip, or maybe we go on this trip for more than a year, and so on. If the idea of the multiverse exists, there are probably very different universes like if Homo Sapiens don’t exist or maybe we evolved differently.

Maybe in one universe there are very few things that change like if someone doesn’t eat all of their cereal or someone doesn’t take a jacket to a party. That brings us to the butterfly effect. The butterfly effect gets its name because the idea is that maybe if a butterfly flaps its wings, a hurricane starts on the other side of the world (that’s an extreme measure of the butterfly effect).

There is a thought experiment called “Schrödinger’s cat.” Schrödinger’s cat is a thought experiment. The idea is that you put a cat in a box with a bomb/killing device that has a 50% chance of exploding/killing the cat. The thought is that is dies or lives. But, according to quantum mechanics, the cat is both alive and dead at the same time until you open the box, you see if the cat is dead or alive, and you go down one path in the multiverse. It’s a lot easier for me to see it as if you find a box in the middle of the desert that says there is a cat in the box (don’t care about how or who but the box there) and you don’t know if the cat is alive or dead. But, the cat is actually alive and dead (at the same time) until you open the box.

We can’t actually experience other universes, but we have evidence that they exist. If there are other creatures on different planets, they might perceive time differently and be able to calculate every possible reality, which is similar to seeing other universes. We think time goes straight: I get up, I walk to my toy, I play with my toy. But, maybe an “alien” who perceives time differently has the events go backwards: I play with my toy, I walk to play with my toy, I get up to walk to my toy to play with it (don’t worry if you don’t understand).
