Today, we took a train to Aguas Calientes. Aguas Calientes is Spanish for hot waters, because there are hot springs near it. The main reason why it was built was a base to hike up to Machu Picchu. We planned to go to Machu Picchu, so we stopped in Aguas Calientes.
The train ride was supposed to be one of the most beautiful train rides through the Andes. I had also wanted to do some drawing but I hadn’t gotten around to it. I found the train ride the perfect place to draw. It had great scenery, and we wouldn’t be doing anything except for playing checkers. Poppy (read Jasper’s post: Meeting Friends: Amie and Poppy) brought a set of magnetic checkers which we played with. They also served us two free drinks on the train and I loved their almond tea. It had the perfect amount of milk and sugar and tasted delicious.
The town was beautiful, and it had a small market with plenty of souvenirs. It even had a central plaza!!! Another nice thing about the town is that it is so small that if I am on the other side of town than our hotel I was still able to find it.
