Many days of this year have been jaw-dropping once-in-a-lifetime experiences, like hiking up to Machu Picchu, or walking along the Great Wall of China. But some days aren’t half as fun or amazing. Today involved waking up at 3:00am to take two exhausting airport flights with 3/5 of us sick.

Houston to Atlanta, a flight at 6:00am. Atlanta to Wahington DC, a flight at noon. Our bags didn’t make it from Atlanta to Wahington DC, so we had to get them from a flight that arrived in Washington at 6:00pm that day.

Today was just utterly exhausting, tiring beyond anything we’ve done recently. But we are in Washington DC, our nation’s capital. We are in a cozy, insulated place with just enough room for all of us. Tomorrow is July 4th, Independence Day, in Wahington DC. I am greatly looking forward to it.
