Today, we went to the famous Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

One of the most impressive things to me about the museum are its models. My favorite model was a fossilized model of a T-rex biting into a Triceratops. My second favorite was a 36-foot squid, which shrunk from being preserved. They also had lots of these little preserved, pinned fish, which you could look at. It made it onto my top 5 list of museums, and will probably stay there for the rest of my life.

My two favorite sections were the fossil hall and the underwater area. The fossil hall had these amazing videos about climate change and about paleontologists. The underwater section had models of the habitats and skeletons of Megaladon-like creatures.

Fun Facts:

  • The National Museum of Natural History has the Hope Diamond!!!
  • Giant Squids live approximently 6 years!
  • You could watch the scientists work on the fossils in person!!!
  • We all evolved from this tiny, two hundred million year old, mouse-like creature (Morganucodon)
